Platinum Resistance Detectors (RTDs) are more accurate with less drift over
narrow
ranges than thermocouples but are not as durable. They respond slower, and
they
are more expensive. Construction of a complete assembly may be similar to
a
thermocouple. The main advantage of an RTD is its accuracy, and that ordinary
copper wire is used as an extension lead wire. Resistance of the lead wire
can affect
the accuracy of the reading. Calibration data is ITS90. Other measurements
or tables
such as IPTS68, should be specifically requested. 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) O. D.
RTDs are
usually used as they have a thicker wall than smaller O. D. tubes which makes
them
stronger, and, they tend to be better in vibration environments.
Note: ITS90 varies from IPTS68 by about:
