Thermocouple Probe Types E, J, K, and T

Standard elements are made from fiberglass silicon impregnated insulated thermocouple wire (special construction elements available on request). Generally Probe thermocouples are less expensive than Swaged (MgO) thermocouples.

General use to 700ºC (1300ºF) depending on type, wire gauge, and insulation on the wire. Limited use to higher temperatures. More easily flexed than Swaged thermocouples.

The element is normally grounded (G) to the protection tube (standard) and the combination is readily replaceable. If the element is ungrounded (U) then both the element and the tube is easily replaced.

A "floating" junction (F) means the element may or may not be grounded or ungrounded. 

Grounded Junctions are standard. This prevents wire from pulling out of tube and gives a quicker response. May be used are a grounded replacement for Miniature assemblies.

Compression Fittings (CF) (optional) can be used for firm mounting . Add "CF" to part number. 1/8" NPT adjustable threaded Compression Fitting  is standard on 1/8" and 3/16" O.D. tubes, and 1/4" NPT is standard on 1/4" O.D. tubes.

For Dual elements insert "D" after "4" in part number. Example: 18K4DP

Consult factory for other available sheaths, and for Type N elements.

Thermocouple Types E, J, K, T - Probe and Compression Fitting (CF)

Same configuration as Standard probes except Compression Fitting (CF) may be screwed in place on equipment,
tube adjusted to desired insertion, then compression nut is tightened on inside ferrule to hold the tube firmly in position.

Thermocouple Types E, J, K, T - Probe and Flexible Extension (FE)

Armored Cable may be ordered on Probe thermocouples. Add FEZ where Z equals the length of Flexible
Extension (FE). Wire in Armored Cable is made out of solid fiberglass insulated, silicon impregnated, thermocouple
wire unless otherwise specified. Outside Diameter (O.D.) of cable is 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) or 3/16 inch (4.76 mm)
depending on O.D. of tube. Grounded Junctions (G) are standard. 

Example: Part Number 20J4P-9M3-48-12-FE36 signifies a 20 gauge, Type J, 48 inch overall, 12 inch probe, 36
Flexible Extension, plus 3 inches of leads.

General use to 700ºC (1300ºF) (depending on type and gauge wire) where Plugs and Jacks are either not required
or not desirable. 20 and 24 gauge, 3/16 inch and 1/8 inch O.D. probes are made from fiberglass, silicon impregnated
insulated thermocouple wire and miniature protection tubes.

Grounded junction is standard to help prevent wire from pulling out of the tube and to give a quick response. 90º
and 45º angles are standard, others available upon special request plus submission of a diagram. Part numbers
shown are for 45º. For 90º, change 45º to 90º in part number.

Armored Cable is added on the Angle Probe to mechanically protect the extension wire. Add FEZ where Z equals
the length of Flexible Extension (FE). Wire in Armored Cable is made out of solid fiberglass insulated, silicon
impregnated, thermocouple wire unless otherwise specified. Outside Diameter (O.D.) of cable is 1/4 inch (6.35 mm)
or 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) depending on O.D. of tube. Grounded junction is standard to help prevent wire from pulling out
of the tube and to give a quick response.

90º and 45º angles are standard, others available upon special request plus submission of a diagram. Part numbers
shown are for 90ºº. For 45º, change 90º to 45º in part number.

Bayonet Fitting Thermocouples For The Plastics Industry

Thermocouple Types E, J, K, T - Standard Probes and Bayonet Fitting (BF)



Standard elements are made from fiberglass epoxy impregnated insulated thermocouple wire (special construction
elements available on request). Generally Probe thermocouples are less expensive than Swaged (MgO) thermocouples.

General use to 700ºC (1300ºF) depending on type, wire gauge, and insulation on the wire. Limited use to higher
temperatures. More easily flexed than Swaged thermocouples.

The element is normally grounded (G) to the protection tube (standard) and the combination is readily replaceable.
If the element is ungrounded (U) then both the element and the tube is easily replaced.
A "floating" junction (F) means the element may or may not be grounded or ungrounded. 

Grounded Junctions are standard. This prevents wire from pulling out of tube and gives a quicker response. May be
used are a grounded replacement for Miniature assemblies. Bayonet Fitting (BF) presets depth and allows quick
attachment and removal.

Example: Part Number 20J4P-9M3-48-12-BF6 signifies a 20 gauge, Type J, 48 inch overall, 12 inch probe, Bayonet
Fitting having a 6 inch "U" length, plus 3 inches of leads.

X = Overall Thermocouple length    Y = Metal probe length
U = Length from hot tip end to top of Bayonet Fitting Cap.

Thermocouple Types E, J, K, T - Probe, Flexible Extension (FE) and Bayonet Fitting (BF)



Armored Cable may be ordered on Probe thermocouples. Add FEZ where Z equals the length of Flexible Extension
(FE). Wire in Armored Cable is made out of solid fiberglass insulated, silicon impregnated, thermocouple wire unless
otherwise specified. Outside Diameter (O.D.) of cable is 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) or 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) depending on
O.D. of tube. Bayonet Fitting (BF) presets depth and allows quick attachment and removal. Add "U" where U = Length
from hot tip end to top of Bayonet Fitting Cap. Grounded Junctions (G) are standard. 

Example: Part Number 20J4P-9M3-48-12-FE36-BF2.5 signifies a 20 gauge, Type J, 48 inch overall, 12 inch probe,
36 Flexible Extension, Bayonet Fitting 2 1/2 inches, plus 3 inches of leads.

Armored Cable is added on the Angle Probe to mechanically protect the extension wire. Add FEZ where Z equals the
length of Flexible Extension (FE). Wire in Armored Cable is made out of solid fiberglass insulated, silicon impregnated,
thermocouple wire unless otherwise specified. Outside Diameter (O.D.) of cable is 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) or 3/16 inch
(4.76 mm) depending on O.D. of tube. Bayonet Fitting (BF) presets depth and allows quick attachment and removal.

Grounded junction is standard to help prevent wire from pulling out of the tube and to give a quick response.

90º and 45º angles are standard, others available upon special request plus submission of a diagram. Part numbers
shown are for 90ºº. For 45º, change 90º to 45º in part number.
